A Mix of Work & Pleasure...

I can’t believe my little boy Rocco is going to be starting school in September and his time overseas with me is going to be limited to the school holidays. His whole life has been one BIG holiday since he was three weeks old and I am a firm believer that although Rocco and Tahlia won’t remember their South African adventures, exploring the USA, travelling a lot of Europe and seeing parts of Asia, it has most definitely instilled an enormous amount of confidence in them and they have become amazing little swimmers. With a restriction of travelling looming, I wanted to take the opportunity to spend 3 weeks in Spain at the family house in San Pedro de Alcantara. I was going to be filming in Granada (just a 2-hour drive away from the house) and also Valencia at the end of the 3-week trip so I wanted to have a Spanish Summer Adventure!

One of the nicest things about the holiday home in San Pedro de Alcantara is that there are so many other people who have owned a holiday home in the same complex for over 15 years or more. Those people have gone on to have children who are of a similar age to Rocco and Tahlia and over the years we have bumped in to them on several occasions. This Summer was no exception and Rocco thoroughly enjoyed spending a good few hours of each day with his ‘Summer Love’, Sienna.

We discovered a fantastic new place for families who are visiting the Marbella area, in the form of ‘Mundo Mania’, an indoor and outdoor soft-play venue with some fun oversized chairs, football pitches, trampolines and mini water park. It’s a great place to spend the afternoon and if you are brave enough, they even have a kid’s foam party on Friday’s!

Alex and I spent almost every evening dining at a different restaurant. I seriously feel like I need to hit the gym and start taking my skipping rope with me on my travels again. ‘Tehuelche’ and ‘El Ancla’ are two of my favourites in the area and a visit to Puente Romano is always a nice experience where The Sea Grill and Nobu are popular places to dine.

During the holiday, we decided to spend the day at the new renovated Kempinski Bahia in Estepona. The children enjoyed lazing on the cabana overlooking the ocean as much as we did, and lunch in the trendy brasserie Baltazar was delicious. Whilst our little ones were kept busy; planting flowers and painting in the kid’s club, Alex and I had two of THE BEST massages we have ever had! A happy family all round. Just a fifteen-minute drive from Puerto Banus, new renovated rooms and a selection of highly regarded golf courses, this beach front hotel is fantastic place to stay for a family get away.

Alex had to return to London to go back to the office which meant I attended the Marbella Global Gift Gala alone. My good friend Nick Ede invited me to support the event and it was lovely to support the evening with some good friends, even though Alex was missed. I loved my beautiful dress from Mascara Collection.

As the holiday came to an end, our adventure in Spain continued. We jumped in the car and drove 7 hours to Valencia. Valencia is one of my favourite cities in Spain. I had taken Rocco to Valencia when he was 18 months old so it was nice to be able to look back at our photos and return to some of the places he had been to previously, but this time with Tahlia in tow. With great beaches, stunning architecture, and some must see sights that include the City of Arts and Sciences and the Biopark Zoo, if you are a fan of Barcelona then Valencia must be on your bucket list.

I found a fantastic place to stay within spitting distance of the Plaza de la Reina. The Cathedral Suites offer decent size, inexpensive, self-catering rooms. With a small pool on the rooftop and a nice rooftop bar, it’s the ideal place for a couple or family wanting to spend a few days exploring the city.

I’m really pleased to hear the children are starting to speak more and more Spanish and I am wondering If it might be possible to squeeze another little trip in before Rocco’s first day of school?...
